Summary
In high-tech physics labs, the temperature gets as low as minus 273.13°C – colder than in outer space! After all, the lowest “natural” temperature measured so far among the stars is “only” minus 270.43°C. At ultra-low temperatures, unusual things happen. For example, air turns liquid at minus 182°C, while quantum materials display crazy phenomena such as lossless current conduction.
The physics faculty student council will be whipping up a fresh batch of Neumann’s yogurt ice cream every 15 minutes. Using liquid nitrogen, the mixture will be briefly cooled down to minus 196°C, causing it to freeze immediately. A choice of toppings is available. Price: €1 per scoop.
